That is pretty crappy pay for an experienced QA tester, especially if they expect someone who can do scripting...
I haven't seen any QA resumes through the main contract houses (RHF, KForce, etc) for less than $60/hr. I doubt they're taking 50% off the top, but I guess they could be.
Actually 50% skim isn't uncommon these days, especially from the larger nationwide agencies. I've heard of some agencies skimming as much as 80% for some placements. If you can find an agency that is only taking 25-30% these days that is unusual.
80%? Ouch. I haven't contracted through an agency for 16 yrs, but they were only getting about 30% off me then.
Contracting in a soft market can be brutal. 30% used to be pretty standard, but some agencies get greedy and unfortunately there are some people out there that have been out of work for a long time, etc., who will take anything.
